My poor baby has had such a hard time with his tummy. I thought that it was just his constipation but last night he had actually pooped (with some help from mom and dad) and he had been fed. He had eaten at 10:00 but at 11:15 he was acting like he was starving so I fixed him a bottle just to see what he would do, I didn't expect him to drink even half of it, well he drank all of it! So I at first thought that he was just more hungry because he had pooped so much! Well he still wasn't happy. We got up and went into the living room about 11:40 and he screamed and cried until about 2:00! I was trying everything to calm him down. I was also googling colic at the same time! He had all the symptoms that I was reading online. So now I think he has stomach issues and colic! Im trying to be strong about it. When I was a nanny in Tuscaloosa the little girl that I kept had colic so I've kind of already dealt with it. All I did was hold her and rock so I guess I will just have to do the same with him.
This morning was a little better. Once he went back to sleep at 2:00, we slept until 5:30 (I was holding him in our bed of course!) After he ate at 5:30 we went back to sleep until almost 9:00 so we actually got some rest. Once we got up at 9:00 I gave him his bath, baths relax him even more, and he was happy after it long enough for me to shower. After we both got cleaned up he started crying again! I've been holding pretty much the whole time since then. I have finally got him to lay down on his spot on the couch but who knows how long that will last.
We have swapped him to Similac Sensitive and I have been putting mylicon drops in every bottle. We are still giving him the Lactoluse and I ordered a heat wrap for his tummy. We are gonna do what ever it takes to make this sweet baby happy! If any of you reading this have any suggestions please let me know.
I hate to hear that Mack may have colic. If you want suggestions, I don't really think there are too many except let time take its course. Also, don't be afraid to have people over to your house between the times that he has colic either. Trust me, it's so much easier to deal with when you have others there to make light of the situation and can help you walk him around and hold him. I just hope that he doesn't have the colic between 11:15 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. I'm not so sure you will have very many volunteers during those hours. Hang in there girl. I promise it gets better. Cabe was my little one with colic. Love ya!
ReplyDeleteThe belly wrap should help soothe him! Also, go to walgreens. They have a good selection of herbal colic drops!! I think the belly aches go in hand with colic and the more they scream, the more air they take in and the worse their little tummies hurt!! The best advise I can give is find what ever little thing works best for Mack. Being outside and the sound of running water worked for Abram! Abram's lasted for about 4 months and his colic time was usually 6-11 every night! He always wanted to be held and it did get tiring, and frustrating at times, but I tried not to show because babies know!! Honestly, one of the hardest things were people's oppinions. I had people say feed him, he's hungry, is he wet??... the suggestions went on and on. They will act like they are starving when they are having their colic. When it first started I would feed him, but that just made his tummy worse, because he wasn't actually hungry. I learned fast that when they have belly aches they mistake that for hunger. It was hard, but I finally stopped feeding him during his colic time until it was actually time for him to eat! He eventually realized he wasn't actually hungry!! I hope you find what works for Mack and you are able to get rest when he actually sleeps!! I use to say that God only gives colic babies to strong mamas lol. So, you will be just fine!! love y'all!
ReplyDeleteSavanah, my Grandmother used to tell me that babies are happier on their tummies so I would put mind on my knees and bounce, a LOT. Also, I want to think that she mentioned catnip tee???? I tried everything always being positive and thinking that the next thing we did was going to solve the problem.
ReplyDeleteSo, think positive if you can at 2:00 and do whatever works best for you and Mack. I'm so sorry he's having a tummy ache, it is the pits when your child hurts.
Miss you!!!!!
